Apply for Library Cards at the Circulation Desk during open hours.

A Springfield Public Library Card is required to borrow items from the Library. Library Card holders are responsible for all items checked out on their Library Cards. Please notify the Library immediately if your Library Card is lost or stolen. A $3.00 charge is assessed to replace a lost or stolen Library Card. Please notify the Library of any change of address or phone number.

Library Cards: Who can apply?

Springfield Public Library Cards are free to:

  • All city residents or anyone owning or renting property inside the Springfield city limits.
  • Springfield District 19 teachers and Springfield Head Start teachers who live outside the city (one-year Card for educational purposes only).

Springfield Public Library Cards for non-city residents

Non-city residents may purchase a Springfield Public Library Card which may be used by everyone in the household.

As of September 1, 2017, these fees are:

  • $90.00 for 12 months,
  • $53.00 for six months, or
  • $27.00 for three months.

Springfield Public Library Cards for children

Non-city residents may purchase a Springfield Public Library Card which may be used by everyone in the household:

  • Children under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardianís written permission to receive a Library Card.
  • The parent or legal guardian must show acceptable identification (see below)
  • Children visiting the library without a parent or legal guardian can bring this application, completed by parent or legal guardian to sign-up for a library card.

Library Cards: How do I apply?

To apply for a Library Card, you must show:

  • Acceptable Identification, and
  • Proof of Residency.
  • Library card registration is not available during the last 10 minutes of the day before closing.

Acceptable Identification and Proof of Residency is:

  • A valid Oregon Driverís License, or
  • An Oregon Identification Card showing a current address.

If you do not have one of the above items, you will need to show one of the Acceptable Identification Verifications (below) PLUS one of the Acceptable Address Verifications (below):

Acceptable Identification Verifications:

  • Picture I.D. (high school, college, check cashing card, etc.)
  • Out-of-state driverís license
  • Birth certificate
  • Valid Passport
  • Matricula consular card (Mexican Consular Identification card)

Acceptable Address Verifications:

  • Utility bill from the current month
  • Bank account with address or personalized checks
  • Current hunting or fishing license
  • Current voterís registration card
  • Rent receipt with address from the current month
  • Current car registration
  • Letter postmarked within the last 30 days
